Our guests for this event are Srinivas Laxman- - a space journalist contributing regularly to the Times Of India and Ruchira Sawant- Co founder of MakeShift and a member of the satellite ground station program. They have years of experience writing about space, and have seen the growth of the Indian space programme first hand. Explore their work- writing about space. The talk will be followed by a Q & A session.

 

Srinivas Laxman is a senior space journalist contributing regularly to the Times of India. Over the years he has covered major rocket launches at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, including India’s maiden lunar mission, Chandrayaan-1, and the first flight to Mars, Mangalyaan.

He has interviewed the first man on the moon, Neil Armstrong, and the last man who stood on the lunar surface, Eugene Cernan. He has also interacted with India’s first spaceman, Rakesh Sharma, and Indian-American astronauts, Kalpana Chawla and Sunita Williams.
He has visited NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre at Florida, the Johnson Space Centre at Houston, Texas, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena near Los Angeles and the European spaceport of Kourou in French Guyana, South America.

With immense passion and experience he has authored 4 books of which two are about India's Mission to Mars, one is about the first Indian Moon mission and a bio of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
Ruchira Sawant a space science communicator and educator with Hands-on-experience in the field. Ruchira Sawant co-founded MakeShift with the objective to help every child explore their creative potential to become the next generation of “Creative Leaders".

 

With a background in Physics, Ruchira has worked on different research and community projects like SatNogs, CFL Disposal. She is a published writer in the field of STEM, Space Science, and many other topics in leading Marathi and English Newspapers and other mediums. Ruchira got invited to share her journey at Akashwani, Australia Tamil Radio Broadcast, DD Sahyadri - 'Hello Sakhi', US Consulate, Mumbai, leading Marathi newspaper -Loksatta and various youtube channels and Facebook pages like Bol Barva.

 

Srinivas Laxman and Ruchira Sawant together have started - Space Handshake - which is a series of casual conversations about space and space-related events.
