Kothaligad Fireflies Festival & Night Trek
Embark on a mesmerizing night trek to Kothaligad, a scenic hill fort in the Sahyadri ranges, to witness the magical glow of fireflies during their mating season. This pre-monsoon adventure is a perfect blend of nature, thrill, and tranquility, ideal for anyone looking to escape the city’s chaos and experience one of nature’s most enchanting spectacles. The trek begins with a late-night meeting at Karjat Railway Station around 12:15 AM, followed by a private local transfer to Ambivali village. From there, the ascent begins under the starlit sky, with the forest trail illuminated by thousands of twinkling fireflies—a rare and beautiful phenomenon. After reaching the summit around 4:00 AM, trekkers can rest before witnessing a breathtaking sunrise and exploring the fort. The descent begins at 8:00 AM, and after a refreshing breakfast in the base village, participants return to Karjat by 11:30 AM.
The package includes private transportation from Karjat to Karjat in 7–9 seater eco-vehicles (Tumtum), one breakfast with tea, and guidance from experienced trek leaders, ensuring both fun and safety. A basic first aid kit will also be available on-site. However, items like cold drinks, mineral water, packaged snacks, and personal purchases are not included and should be brought along by participants.
The trek is designed to be an immersive experience, and all participants are required to carry essential items such as a good rucksack, extra clothes, water bottles, personal medications, a torch, ID proof, and light snacks. Wearing full-sleeve, comfortable trekking clothes and proper trekking shoes is strongly recommended. As with all wilderness activities, participants must adhere to strict rules—alcohol, smoking, and loud music are strictly prohibited, and littering on the trails is not allowed. Respect for nature, the local environment, and fellow trekkers is paramount. The trek leaders' decisions are final in all situations, especially those concerning safety and group dynamics.
