The live panel includes Dr. Pavlos Protopapas (Harvard University), Dr. Rahul Dave (formerly Harvard University), and Dr. Achuta Kadambi (UCLA, Forbes 30-under-30) in conversation with Siddharth Das, former CEO of Reliance Jio Money, and CEO of Univ.AI.
About Pavlos Protopapas: Pavlos is the Scientific Program Director, Institute for Applied Computational Science (IACS) at Harvard University, and leads the data science masters program at Harvard. Pavlos has had a long and distinguished career as a scientist and data science educator, and today teaches the CS109 series for basic and advanced data science at Harvard, as well as the capstone course (industry-sponsored data science projects) for the IACS masters program. Pavlos is a founding Faculty partner of Univ.AI. Pavlos has a Ph.D in theoretical physics from the University of Pennsylvania but has since branched into doing research in, astronomy, especially in the use of machine learning and AI in astronomy, and computer science. He was Deputy Director of the National Expandable Clusters Program (NSCP) at the University of Pennsylvania, and was instrumental in creating the Initiative in Innovative Computing (IIC) at Harvard. Pavlos has taught multiple courses on Machine Learning and computational science at Harvard, summer schools, and programs in Chile, China, Colombia, and Italy.
About Achuta Kadambi: Achuta is an Assistant Professor at UCLA where he directs [the Visual Machines Group]. Powered by artificial intelligence, the group creates imaging systems that can see the unseen. Achuta received his PhD from MIT, his BS from UC Berkeley, and has had papers presented at the top venues of computer vision and graphics, including ICCV, CVPR, SIGGRAPH, and SIGGRAPH Asia. Achuta is excited to partner with univ.ai in Bangalore, to train the next generation of technology innovators who strive for social impact. Earlier this year, Achuta was named to the Forbes 30 under 30 list and received the NSF research initiation award.
About Rahul Dave: Rahul was on the original team for Harvard’s famous Data Science course, cs109, and has taught machine learning, statistics, and AI courses, both at Harvard and at multiple conferences and workshops. Some of his more popular offerings have been the Data Scientist Training for Librarians workshops in Boston and Copenhagen, Machine Learning for Suits at the Open Data Science Conference, and the am207 course on Bayesian Statistics and Generative Models at Harvard. He has continued to be on the teaching staff for cs109 at Harvard. Rahul is an accomplished computational scientist with a strong programming background and a veteran cosmologist. His Ph.D. work in cosmology and astrophysics at the University of Pennsylvania involved both high performance computing and bayesian statistics, and subsequent work in astronomy took him in the direction of machine learning and AI. Rahul is passionate about teaching, and a big believer in exposing big, 'researchy' ideas early on, to students.
About Siddharth Das: Siddharth is the CEO of Univ.AI. He co-founded it after a decade-long career in India’s fast growing fintech sector. Most recently, he served as CEO, Reliance Jio Money, the fintech arm of Jio. Earlier, he was COO of PayZippy, Flipkart’s first payments business, and COO of CRIF-HIghMark, India’s only and leading Credit Bureau focussed on credit for the underprivileged. Before moving to India, and into fintech, Siddharth spent a decade in San Francisco working first, as product manager for tech companies, and later as an Analytics business leader for FICO, the company that invented credit scoring. He holds a graduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and an undergraduate degree from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee. Siddharth is a creator, who’s interests range from architecture to audiophile sound. At the moment, he’s building a modernist house he designed, and alongside, working on finishing his third sound system.
